About Us

mpad is one of the South West’s leading marketing companies.

Based in Cornwall we provide Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising and Design to help our clients communicate with their customers in order to get their message across effectively.

Effective communication is important and it can be achieved through a variety of means to suit all requirements.

Since 1999 we have helped private sector business, public sector organisations and charities in Cornwall, Devon, the South West and now nationally to effectively communicate their message.

Through gaining an understanding of our clients’ requirements we build a marketing strategy that allows us to pinpoint the best ways to reach the target market and raise awareness.

We then take the strategy and use a combination of regular press coverage, newsletter and leaflet creation, website design, brand creation and email marketing to spread to message.

Clients include Worldwide Financial Planning, Textaholic, Opium, Richfords Fire and Flood, Cultivate, Ecomsl, PFA Research, Treasure Trails and Beachbeat Surfboards amongst others.

The mpad team

Mark Picken

Mark founded mpad in 1999 with the aid of funding from the Prince’s Trust.

After graduating from Falmouth College of Arts in 1996 Mark worked for various media and design companies in the area but found that his ambitions were not being fulfilled.

He completed a business course before successfully gaining funding and launching the company on 1 July 1999.

He initially founded mpad with Sarah Talbot, who left the company in 2005.

Mark is a keen sportsman and during 2006 he has been to Thailand for Muay Thai / kickboxing training, as well as competing in the Falmouth and St Ives Biathlon.

He is currently training for a mile swim from Padstow to Rock to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief and the Perranporth Triathlon.

Mpad has also sponsored Mark’s Sunday League football team for the forthcoming season and they will now be known as Mpad United.

Dania Shaw

Dania joined mpad in 2005 as office administrator. Her initial role was to look after the day to day running of the office, however, her role soon expanded and now covers all aspects of the business including client and media liaison, project management, administration and event organisation − Dania successfully set up the Bouncathon, one of the fist major fundraising events for Cystic Fibrosis in Cornwall and helped raise almost £1200 in a day.

Ben Rowe

Ben is mpad’s in demand photographer. A former graphic designer, Ben has a great understanding of how photography works within the context of design and marketing.

We work closely with Ben to provide high quality imagery for marketing, public relations, advertising and design.

Treasure Trails (website)

Well all know that men sometimes have issues buying Christmas presents for the one they love, so what better way to help them than create an online game which has the outcome of providing them with a link to the perfect gift. Success all round with increased awareness, creative marketing ideas and a happy Christmas for all.

Textaholic (mobile campaign)

Who did you think would win the World Cup in 2006? England? Really! Well that’s what Textaholic’s simple text game asked pub goers across the country. Armed with a text number and a flyer featuring some lovely girls in Textaholic tops who could resist the lure to pit themselves against their mates, predict the eventual winners and hope to win a prize.

The Hub (email newsletter)

Mark was instrumental in founding the Hub, a young business network in Cornwall in September 2002. A member of the committee Mark is responsible for promoting the events and brightening up the 700 members inboxes three times a month.

Worldwide (outside event)

What better way to promote the changes in pension regulations in April 2006 than have two people bouncing around town in white rabbit costumes. Well there is a link because did you know that there are 1378% more searches on the net for rabbits than pensions. We had some fun, gained publicity and raised awareness.

Self-promotion is great. We’re often in the press and we feel it’s a good way of marketing ourselves. People see that we can do the business. Mark was the proud recipient of a lovely wetsuit courtesy of Big Wednesday Surf to help him with his triathlon training.

Public Relations

Bouncathon (event organisationl)

As well as marketing, public relations, advertising and design we also offer event organisation. Dania is our resident expert here. The Bouncathon was an idea to have continual bouncing on trampolines and space hoppers to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. PR was an important element to get people along for day that raised nearly £1200.

Richfords fire and Flood (public relations)

As one of the leading damage restoration specialists in the South West, Richards are constantly looking for a way to get the message across about fire, flood and oil spillage safety. Our remit – to ensure that awareness is raised and the message is out there.

Saint Industries (publicity)

Saint is a new Cornish clothing company that wants to hit the ground running. Launched at the National Adventure Sports Show our aim is to generate regular publicity that can translate into sales.

Worldwide Financial Planning (publicity)

Worldwide is one of the leading firms of independent financial advisors in the country. Multi award winning and based in Cornwall, our aim is to keep the profile high, as well as look for new opportunities to gain coverage.

Beachbeat Surfboards (press coverage)

Based in St Agnes Beachbeat believes that it has the most unique system in the world for buying surfboards online. Simply logon to the site, pick up your phone and give Chops or Toby a call. You can then watch through your screen as they talk you through any board.

We think Cornwall’s great as there are so many innovative businesses here.

Advertising

We like to offer Effective Communication with a difference was the message in our advert. Helping clients communicate effectively with their customers is our aim, but we like doing things that may seem out of the ordinary.

Opium (brand awareness)

As well as creating the overall brand for Opium we are responsible for helping to raise the boutique’s profile. Advertising is a big part of this and we’ve really enjoyed putting together some stylish images.

Tregony Heavy Horse Show (programme)

Working with Tregony to produce a high quality programme for this year’s show we produced adverts for many local businesses that supported the show.

Textaholic (promotional t-shirts)

Textaholic is a new T-shirt brand aimed at women aged 14 – 24. We were set the challenge to raise awareness of the product nationally, which we did be holding competitions in Sugar, Cosmo Girl, Shout and Mizz.

Channel Photo Media (competition promotion)

Channel wanted a cost effective way to raise the profile of its photographic print services, especially its giclee images. We organised with Brides in Cornwall magazine a competition for a lucky couple to win one of their wedding photographs printed in a large-scale format onto canvas.

Design

DP Engineering (website)

Redruth based DP Engineering wanted to update its marketing material after a recent change in management structure. Looking towards future growth we produced a range of promotional information that complimented the company’s desire to be viewed as progressive, but which also fit into the industry’s traditional conservative nature.

Tregony Heavy Horse Show (programme cover)

With ambitious plans to have the most successful show ever and raise funds for Shelterbox, we were assigned the task to create a programme worthy of the occasion that was attended by 4000 people.

Richard Thomas Partnership (website)

RTP wanted to celebrate its 20th birthday in style with a new website. With new photography and working with the team we created a site that fits in with the company’s ethos.

Worldwide Financial Planning (brochure)

Working closely with Worldwide, we produced a 48-page booklet that highlights important financial issues. Ideal for the home or office the book is designed to give people top tips on how to deal with their money. We were pleased to work on such a large project that can make a difference.

Opium (logo)

Opium is a ladies’ fashion boutique in Truro. Working closely with owner Poppy Roberts we created a brand that fitted in with her style and outlook. Logo, letterheads, business cards, shop livery, posters, invitations and bags have all been designed to highlight her shop.
